Project MALES will host its third Plática on Monday, April 15. Our featured guest speaker is Dr. Sarah Brayne, who will provide an overview of her research in the criminal justice system and share highlights about her work in her work at Gardner-Betts Detention Center and with the Texas Prison Education Initiative.
Dr. Sarah Brayne is an Assistant Professor of Sociology at The University of Texas at Austin. In her research, Dr. Brayne uses qualitative and quantitative methods to examine the use of big data within the criminal justice system. In her most recent work, she analyzed the use of predictive analytics and new surveillance technologies in the Los Angeles Police Department.
Prior to joining the faculty at UT-Austin, Brayne was a Postdoctoral Researcher at Microsoft Research. She received her Ph.D. in Sociology and Social Policy from Princeton University. Brayne has volunteer-taught college-credit sociology classes in prisons since 2012. She is the founder of the Texas Prison Education Initiative.
