Project MALES will be hosting our third and last plática of Spring 2022 on Monday, April 18th from 5:00 – 7:00 P.M. CDT in room 2.814 of the George I. Sánchez Building (SZB). We have the honor to be joined by Jorge L. Morales, Director of the Watershed Protection Department, who will share how he uses his own past experiences as a Latino growing up in the Dallas area to hone his focus on and stay anchored to leading with equity. As a city executive with influence, he is intentional with his strategies and prioritizes outcomes-based management as laid out in the City’s Strategic Direction 2023 (SD23).”
Jorge L. Morales was recently appointed as the director of the Watershed Protection Department, his department’s mission is to protect lives, properties, and the environment from the impacts of flooding, erosion, and water pollution. In his new role, he looks forward to working with the community to identify solutions to keep Austinites safe.
Mr. Morales was the first and only one in his family to serve in US Army which enabled him to also be the first in his family to graduate from a university. After his military service, Mr. Morales received a civil engineering degree from the University of Texas at Austin and recently went back and received a master’s degree from the LBJ School of Public Affairs. Mr. Morales remains an active servant leader by volunteering at his church and in the community. He enjoys mentoring and inspiring others to grow personally and professionally.
Pláticas are held monthly during the academic year and highlight faculty and community leaders whose work centers and/or impacts boys and young men of color through research and practice.
Food will be provided from 5:00 – 5:30 P.M. CDT. We invite all UT students, faculty, staff, and community members to join us.
