Coupled with various mentoring programs, the undergraduate students launched The Project MALES Student Organization. This organization serves a two-fold purpose: to bring awareness to the UT-Austin campus on the issue of the Latino educational attainment, and to provide our students a space where they can strengthen social bonds, develop community relations, and hone their leadership skills in a safe and nurturing environment.
The Project MALES Student Organization’s mission is: To bring awareness to the gender gap that exists in regards to the educational attainment of the minority population, specifically Latino males.
The membership strives to fulfill the mission of the student organization through the following activities:
- Fellowship and Networking in the form of a talk series, Pláticas, where advocates of education will spread their knowledge and educate our members in regards to topics of interest.
- Community Engagement in the form of providing members the opportunity to serve within UT Austin, and the surrounding local Austin community.
- Professional Development in the form of The Project MALES Graduate Mentorship Program, and the pairing of members with graduate student mentors.
