Our goals
What We Stand for
The Heman Sweatt Center was hosted by the University of Texas at Austin, in order to get more Black Male youth to attend the university and succeed beyond measure. With this goal in mind, we aim to create a welcoming environment that provides the support that black youth from all walks of life so need. In our meetings, we break past generational trauma and stereotypes, spread the growth of ideas, and share our experiences with each other; whether happy or sad. As we strive to educate, prepare, and support the next generation of Black men, we create a place where they can find themselves and create future oriented goals. With this, we provide mentorship and encouragement for our students through educational workshops, seminars, activities and creative collaborations. By connecting Black youth across UT Austin and Texas, we build a large community of people who support each other and want to see each other grow and succeed.
Donate
The Heman Sweatt Center is doing great work, but we need your help to positively impact more brothers on campus. Your donations go directly to study abroad scholarships, undergraduate research opportunities, summer internship fund, the Collegiate Black Male Retreat, as well as our national exposure trips to D.C. and NY. If you are interested in donating, please connect with Ian Tuski
Join Alumni Network
We would love to stay connected with all undergraduate and graduate alumni of the Sweatt Center. There are ample opportunities to stay engaged with the Sweatt Center, including: The Sweatt Mentorship program, financial donations, creating internship opportunities or dropping in on one of our weekly power hours. Your Direct Impact
Building a generation of
Talent and Education
The Heman Sweatt Center strives to educate, prepare and support the next generation of Black men, and create a place where they can find identity, purpose and community.
The mission of the Heman Sweatt Center is to provide a safe space for African American men who otherwise may lack the resources, knowledge or funding to take full advantage of life opportunities. The center offers academic assistance from mentors who are both scholars, professionals and student-athletes. The center also cultivates a close-knit community with staff members hosting game nights, retreats, and cookouts for our students. The Sweatt Center is not just about academics or career prospects, but about providing a sense of family that each other understands struggles and perspectives.

Where Your Money Goes
The Heman Sweat Center is a relatively small organization, and we put every one of your dollars to good use. As a non-profit, our goal is to accomplish our mission of providing academic excellence, personal and professional development for black males, and every dollar is put towards that mission. Your money helps fund a variety of our programs and initiatives that need to change our student’s lives, from providing scholarships, research grants, professional development set-ups, and more.
